Our 1995 hiking trip to the Pond Inlet area shown here was our second trip Baffin Island in the eastern Arctic with the first being our 1990 traverse near Pangnirtung. That trip was at the Arctic Circle. This trip was another 12 degrees further north. So our 1995 trip was as far north from our 1990 trip as Whitehorse is north of Vancouver. The Canadian arctic, and Baffin Island in particular, is a big place!
This trip started the same as our 1990 trip with a flight from southern Canada to Iqaluit (also on Baffin Island) which is now the capital of Nunavut. From there we flew to Pond Inlet with a stop at the Nanisivik / Arctic Bay airport to change planes.
This was a fun trip with friends Dianne and Irene. We simply explored the area near the town of Pond Inlet, something we gather very few people have done.
