The following photos are a celebration of our two dear friends, Janet Noakes and John Pearson. The scenes are from wide ranging trips: canoeing the Horton River, backpacking through Auyuittuk and Ivvavik National Parks, skiing in Kluane National Park. No matter the location, there were many enjoyable days together in the wilderness… restful contemplative days, challenging active days, wonderful campsites, shared meals and stories, and ultimately happy group shots.
Janet and John were solid thoughtful people. She a doctor; he a physicist and teacher; they both helped others. They taught us a lot… about trip planning, gear preparations, camp cooking, map reading, decision making, teamwork, and more. Both were born in 1954, the same year as Manrico.
Tragically Janet and John died in an avalanche on Mount Cerberus on the Monarch Icefield, British Columbia on May 17, 1996. We* continue to remember them and honour them every May since.
*We are: Bruce, Brenda, Colin, Connie, Dianne, Irene, Mark, Susan, Liz, and Manrico.
