Much of our pensiamo.com website is about our “adventures”, our trips on foot, ski, canoe, and kayak. There are adventures one has on trips and there are adventures one has in life. The two years that I, Manrico, spent in Elkford, British Columbia was a life adventure. This was several years before I met Liz and I was married to Kathleen at that time. She was a kindergarten teacher in Elkford while I taught high school in nearby Sparwood and Fernie. We moved to Elkford in summer 1977 right after we graduated from university and got married.
Being a teacher was definitely a life adventure for me. I didn’t enjoy it and I wasn’t very good at it. I was done after two years and moved back to Vancouver for a big career change.
Elkford is a purpose built mining town. Everything was new or almost new when we lived there. Living in a mining town has its pros and cons. Elkford is somewhat special in that it is in a beautiful mountain environment. Think Banff with no tourists or tourist infrastructure.
Even though I didn’t like being a teacher, I very much enjoyed living in Elkford. I spent many happy days hiking, climbing, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing. This webpage is a collection of winter/spring photos in the Elkford area.
Now the photos. If you expand the photo viewer to full page the “Adventures” menu will stop working. This is because of technical issues with the website software. Pick any other menu item and go to that web page. The “Adventures” menu will then work properly.
