The two of us enjoyed our longest vacation together in 2019 when we spent six weeks in Italy. Five days in Venice was followed by a 19-day hike across the Dolomiti Mountains followed by a 10-day visit with Manrico’s relatives, ending with a week in Rome.
Five of us were on the hike: Doug, with whom we’ve done many trips, and Jackie and Sheila who Manrico hiked with in France in 2018.
Our hike followed almost the entire well known Alta Via 1 route. We added four days at the beginning by starting in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area. Another four days were added in the middle when we did a side trip to the Tofane Group. We stayed at 14 rifugi and climbed or descended several vie ferrate and sentieri attrezzati along the way. Look at the photos to find out what these are.
Here is a Google Earth tour of our route. The route shown is the actual GPS track recorded by Jackie.
Now the photos. If you expand the photo viewer to full page the “Adventures” menu will stop working. This is because of technical issues with the website software. Pick any other menu item and go to that web page. The “Adventures” menu will then work properly.
