We’ve done many trips in our time, including canoe trips, but nothing like this one. This was our first trip in Ontario and our first lakes-based canoe trip. We have only done a few canoe trips. All of those were on long rivers in the Northwest Territories and Yukon.
This trip started with a flight to Winnipeg, Manitoba. There we met with Doug who flew in from his home in Toronto, Ontario. We also met Nancy and Peter who drove their camper van from their home in Nelson, British Columbia. After a couple of days of sightseeing in Winnipeg, we drove together six hours east to Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario.
Then we did our 14 day canoe trip in the northern part of the park. We travelled on 15 different lakes. Five of those lakes were crossed twice because of our route which means we were on 20 lakes in 14 days. Connecting the lakes were 31 portages.
Big thanks to Doug for organizing the trip and planning the route. Big thanks also to Nancy and Peter for allowing us to use many of their photos on this web page and for using their vehicle to drive from Winnipeg to Quetico and then back. And finally, a big thanks to all three for their pleasant company.
Here is a Google Earth tour of our route. The photos follow that.
Now the photos. If you expand the photo viewer to full page the “Adventures” menu will stop working. This is because of technical issues with the website software. Pick any other menu item and go to that web page. The “Adventures” menu will then work properly.
