For many years we thought rafting trips were for old people and that we never thought we would go on one. Then in mid-2023 Bruce and Brenda emailed some of their friends to say they had signed up with Nahanni River Adventures for a 12 day rafting trip on the South Nahanni River which is in the southwest corner of Canada’s Northwest Territories. They invited others to join them by also signing up. We thought about it and decided yes, rafting was now sounding like a good way to see the backcountry.
Others we know who signed up were Dianne, Irene, Liz B. (a different Liz), and Melinda. Unfortunately Melinda had to drop out at the last minute because of an injury. Three strangers to us also signed up for this trip: Marie, Shirley, and her brother Stephen. They had to put up with our rowdy group of friends.
Kyle Stephens was the trip leader (lead guide). The other guides were Aidan Cook and Zoe Kallio. All three were very capable, energetic, and fun to be with. It was an excellent trip. We will be doing more rafting trips in the future!
Following are video clips and photos from the trip. The silent 12 minute video includes 9 minutes of video clips from the trip followed by a 3 minute Google Earth tour of our route.
Thanks to Irene, Kyle, and Shirley for contributing photos. Other photos were taken by the two of us.
Now the photos. If you expand the photo viewer to full page the “Adventures” menu will stop working. This is because of technical issues with the website software. Pick any other menu item and go to that web page. The “Adventures” menus will then work properly.
